My favorite of the more than 200 items in Target’s newest collaboration? The Marimekko bicycle for Target, of course.
The single-speed two-wheeler, in a cheery floral called Kukkatori, is among the affordably priced outdoor goods, decor, table accessories and beachwear for women and girls that bear the distinctive prints of the Finnish brand, which was founded in 1951 to bring brightness to everyday living in the post-World-War-II era.
Fun remains the theme in Target x Marimekko. It follows successful team-ups with Lilly Pulitzer last year and Missoni in 2011. In those collections, as well, bicycles in Palm Beach pastels and an eye-catching Italian knit-wear pattern, respectively, showed up as lively extensions of stylish living. (I still see one of the Target x Missioni bikes in my neighborhood from time to time; the owner must store it indoors because it’s in very good condition.) Earlier this year, Target also partnered with studio cycling powerhouse SoulCycle in a 10-city tour of pop-up spin classes, which also included branded fitness apparel.
The Target x Marimekko collection, mostly priced below $50, drops in-store and online on April 17. Scroll down to view additional pieces to round out your look for pedaling to the beach this summer.
