Lacy and Racy: Cycling Gear Goes Baroque

baroque women's cycling clothes

We were blown away by the hit of baroque styling in the Hincapie Chantilly women’s cycling jersey (right) – especially in contrast to the minimalist esthetic in road cycling apparel that’s trending right now. It reminded us of the lacy, racy theme in Tibi’s vampiric party dress (left).

We first spotted a break-away toward intricate detail in the 2014 kits for women’s pro cycling Team Specialized-lululemon (below) where graphic black and white florals speak strong, not girly.

But curlicues and fancy styling have popped up in other bicycling gear and apparel, as well, this season. The assemblage below riffs on one of fashion’s most dramatic recent expressions of baroque grandeur: the Alexander McQueen 2013 winter collection, where the bejeweled headpiece – or should we say helmet? – (below) reflected the air of debauched royalty on the runway.

If vampy is your style, then this may be your moment to go for baroque.
