3rd Annual Tour de Queens

Sunday, July 11

Who needs the Tour de France when you can ride the Tour de Queens? This 20-mile, mostly flat “rolling parade,” presented by the advocacy group Transportation Alternatives, is open to all ages and levels. The ride departs at 9 am from Flushing Meadows Park at the Queens Museum of Art and wends its way through parks, greenways and neighborhoods in eastern and northern Queens. Get your ride in, and still make it back home in time for the World Cup Final.

NYCC Annual Newcomers’ Ride

Saturday, July 10

Thinking about joining a cycling club? Here’s your opportunity to get acquainted with current and prospective members of the New York Cycle Club. NYCC’s annual newcomers’ ride  — A, B or C levels — departs at 9 am from Central Park Boathouse (north of the 72nd Street transverse, east side of the park). You’ll ride to a New Jersey destination for an al fresco lunch, then return to Central Park by 3 pm.  No registration is required. Just show up ready for a friendly ride, and don’t forget lunch money. Learn more.

Meanwhile in Connecticut, Signature Cycles presents a ride along the back roads of Fairfield and Westchester counties to benefit the Greenwich Boys and Girls Club (yes, the one you saw on TV when LeBron dropped in on Thursday night) and Adopt-a-Dog. Riders will depart for 100-K or 50-K routes at 8 and 9 am respectively from Camp Simmons, 744 Lake Avenue in Greenwich. Family activities at the Camp will include a BBQ, music, family swim and raffle. Adopt-a-Dog volunteers will be on hand with rescued dogs and information about adoption.

Yoga for Spinners/Cyclists

Finally, if you’re cycling-sore, or just stiff from sitting in front of the TV watching Lance vs. Contador, check out this FREE yoga class at 10 am at lululemon athletica, 15 Union Square West (at 15th Street). The class, which convenes every Sunday in July, is taught by Janna Siegel of Flywheel Sports as part of lululemon’s schedule of community events.
