In the depth of winter, Ava Carmichael’s bike bags blow in like a fresh spring breeze, promising warmer days and a more colorful commute. In vivid hues that conjure clear skies, bright sunshine and sweet sorbet, the Carmichael and Co pannier is as functional as it is fashionable.
The classically styled bags are constructed of durable, water-proof canvas with leather trim and solid brass fittings that stand up to variable riding conditions. Adjustable straps attach the bags securely and with on-off ease to the rear rack of your bike.
Simple but strong straps and hardware help keep bags steady.
While pannier choices continue to expand, striking colors set Carmichael’s offerings apart. The apparel designer, says she is taking her styling cues both from the bold pallet that’s pumping up spring and summer sportswear this season and from the practical needs of growing numbers of bicycle commuters. “The bright colors not only express the energy that is on the rise in the bicycle market, but they also serve to provide added visibility and safety on the road,” she says.
With 1,161 cubic inches of cargo space, you can pack in everything you need for commuting to work, pedaling to the gym or running errands around the neighborhood. Inside the compartments, which measure 10 3/4 in. W x 12 in. L x 4.5 in. D, you’ll find a soft, micro-suede lining, protective rain flaps and a zippered pocket.
In case of a shower, iterior flaps help keep cargo dry.
Vegetable-dyed leather straps and brass buckles lend classic elegance.
Carmichael launched her first collection in 2013, with bags in a more muted pallet. The vivid spring/summer collection is currently on Kickstarter: CLICK HERE. The earliest backers can snap up these pretty panniers for $169, compared with the retail price of $249. So get in on this and help Ava reach her goal!
