There’s nothing more mellow than a summer Sunday group ride, especially along a beach route at the eastern tip of Long Island. Detroit-based bicycle, watch and accessories company, Shinola, which has a flagship store in Lower Manhattan, hosted a leisurely Montauk bike ride last weekend along the Atlantic oceanfront and around Fort Pond. After the ride, participants mingled at brunch on the shaded patio behind the boutique hotel Ruschmeyer’s.

Led by model and actress Carolyn Murphy, it attracted a stylish group, with riders ranging from Hamptons weekenders to vacationers up from Miami. As seen below, the whole lexicon of summer fashion trends — nautical stripes, bare-midriffs, backless halters, shortest shorts, maxi skirts and canvas sneakers (always a great choice for pushing pedals) — were along for the sunny ride on Shinola’s elegant, retro-inspired upright bikes. Even my extra-spicy Bloody Mary was well-accessorized with silver straws and skewered pickled green beans.

When I asked Murphy if she rides her Shinola in the New York City bike lanes, she told me that she’s keeping her wheels at the beach for now. “People kept stopping me in the city,” she said. Because they recognized her? She laughed and replied, “No, because they wanted to know about the bike!”

The route map appears at the bottom of the post.
