As the bicycling boom in New York City continues (hurray!), velojoy.com is growing too. So, I’m looking for a NYC-based, part-time, paid editorial assistant who is as excited about bicycling for transportation and fun in the city as I am to help expand coverage and add new features to the site. If the description below sounds interesting to you or to someone you know (please share!) I would love to hear from you!
Hours: Part-time, 16 hours per week. Two hours per week in-person editorial meeting at a co-working space in the Flatiron District of Manhattan; work remotely for the balance.
Location: Based in NYC.
Bicycling: Yes! Some experience navigating the bike lanes is preferred.
* No. 1 is writing. No. 2 is writing. Craft engaging posts about stylish new products and services for urban cycling; tips on safety and road skills; and neighborhood routes. Assist with creating content for the new, weekly velojoy 360 newsletter. Generate original post ideas for your own byline.
* Social media: Assist with continuing to build social media presence and engagement.
* Research: Assemble photos, product descriptions and links for posts. Help curate content for themed product roundups and accompanying mood boards or slideshows.
* Administration: Proof-read posts. Basic photo editing (familiarity with Photoshop Elements or higher, a plus). Help manage mailing lists. Assist in planning and coordination of special promotions. Maintain the editorial/promotions calendar (Excel).
Your qualifications: Energy and enthusiasm. Fluent in the blog/online world. Solid, proven writing and editorial skills. Ability to organize and prioritize tasks and pay attention to details. Experience with creating engaging content for a variety of social media platforms. Familiarity with WordPress or similar content management system. Basic photography (point-and-shoot) skills.
Pay: Hourly, negotiable and based on experience.
Interested? Here’s what to do next:
Please send a brief resume and 2 writing samples that relate to the type of content that velojoy posts. The latter do not have to be about bicycling — they just need to demonstrate your voice as a writer. (Word documents or links are fine.) Send to bikebell33 at hotmail dot com. Thanks so much!
