There’s a lot of down floating around this season, but why choose a jacket for pedaling around the city by bicycle, when you can wrap yourself in the cocoony comfort of a stole? (The word itself conjures a certain enveloping glamor, doesn’t it?)

On-trend in caviar plaid for fall, this airy show-stopper from sustainable urban wear maker Nau is constructed of recycled polyester with 800-fill down for warmth. With temperatures still variable, it compresses readily to stow in your bag. The generous hood fits over a bicycle helmet, and well-sized arm holes allow ease of movement when reaching for the handlebar. The stole is machine washable, too.

For added autumn warmth, pull on a pair of long, fingerless gloves like the ones shown below. Sure this wrap will catch the breeze, but on a city ride, aero isn’t necessarily everything.

Nau Down Stole, plaid (also comes in solid colors), $280. Carolina Amato Fingerless Knit and Leather Gloves, $95
