Your NYC Cycling Agenda

Aug. 3, 10 and 17 — Car-Free Summer Streets

Pencil in three consecutive Saturdays in August to enjoy pedaling almost 7 miles of car-free Manhattan streets from the Brooklyn Bridge to Central Park. The annual Summer Streets celebration, presented by the NYC Department of Transportation, drew more than a quarter of a million people last year. This year’s program includes five rest stops along the route featuring food, fitness activities and performances — all free — and a seven-block-long art installation inside the Park Avenue Tunnel, which will be open to pedestrians for the first time. A highly recommended outing for families. Learn more.  (There’s also an all-women’s Annie Londonderry Ride on August 10.)

Women’s Morning Ride Series:

Build fitness, road skills and community by joining the women’s road cycling series every Friday morning at 6 a.m., sponsored by Bicycle Habitat and Specialized. Rides alternate between Central Park and Prospect Park — check the group’s facebook page for information and updates by clicking here.

Register Early and Save:

Autumn rides are just around the corner (sigh) and early birds save on registration. Example: Entry fees go up August 1 for the Bicycling Magazine Fall Classic, the October 6 event offering rides of 10 to 90 miles through the scenic Lehigh Valley of eastern Pennsylvania. I signed up this week with a group of friends. Just saying.
