Velojoy Street Scene
One of the things I love best about cycling in NYC is that it gives me a fresh perspective on the streets every day. On my way to a meeting in Greenwich Village this week, I spotted the giant lipstick smudges (above) on Bond Street and stopped to snap an Instagram of my bike. Friday, October 26 – Street of Dreams Benefit
Join Streetsblog and Streetfilms for a benefit party to celebrate another successful year and the road ahead. Why? Because nobody delivers the latest on the movement for safer streets, effective transit and liveable cities like Streetsblog and Streetfilms. The festivities include local victuals from Kickshaw Cookery, beer and wine, of course, live music and a silent auction. Guest of honor: City Council Member Melissa Mark-Viverito, a consistent champion of sustainable transportation issues. Tickets start at $50.

Heels on Wheels — A charmingly illustrated new book by Katie Dailey, a Brit, takes a light-hearted (and why not?), yet practical, look at the feminine side of cycling. NY Times
$1,550 in Tickets — How one NYC cyclist racked up that total in one traffic stop. Did you know that fines for blowing lights multiply with each subsequent offense? Now you do. Treehugger
Revving Up for Bike Share Race — At a ‘Meet the Women’s Pro Cyclists’ event hosted by Bicycle Habitat and Team Specialized-lululemon, NYC Transportation Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan announced the first Citi Bike share race. Olympian and international cycling star Evelyn Stevens has agreed to lead off. We’re psyched! (Bike sharing is due to launch in NYC in 2013.)
Thank you to our friend Marty for sending us this photo from his climb to the top of Mont Ventoux on his recent cycling trip to France. Our quads burn just looking at it.
Have a great weekend!
