Alexandra Cassaniti designs surfer-girl-cool neoprene bathing suits and custom-painted boards under her Summer Bummer label. How best to reach the shores of sunny California, where Cassaniti is located? By beach cruiser, of course. Maybe that’s why the designer, who says she rides her bike everywhere, has included zippered handlebar bags in her extensive collection of beach totes, book bags and pouches.
Hand-screened on heavy cotton canvas, the bags, which are roomier than usual, would be as at-home on a summer ride along the Hudson River as at Ditch Plains in Montauk.
Thoughtful features include a leather bottom for support, outside leather pocket, leather straps, and D rings at the sides for attaching a strap or belt. Meanwhile, Cassaniti’s La Boheme reversible neoprene one-piece (below), with its sleek, some might say “aero,” design and styling, makes us wish she’d whip up a couple of pieces of women’s cycling apparel, too.
