British cycling apparel and accessories maker Rapha introduced women’s road cycling apparel to its line two years ago and has steadily expanded it. At the same time, the company added a substantial collection of men’s clothing designed for city cycling to its traditional road offerings. So it’s great to see that the Rapha Spring Summer 2012 Lookbook includes the first women’s top for urban riding: a versatile wool cycling sweater (above).
We appreciate clothing that projects a sophisticated urban esthetic while offering thoughtful design details and superior comfort on a bicycle. Constructed of breathable, 100 percent Merino wool from Italy, this sweater’s design is inspired by a classic cycling jersey, but its features and understated color say “city” — on and off the bike.
Instead of a zipper, the sweater has a low collar with a four-button placket; ribbed side panels of knitted mesh lend a feminine fit. A high-visibility pink tab with a reflective logo can be buttoned on to the single rear pocket.
We’ll post a review once the sweater becomes available.
