Have you noticed that dots are hot? When I finally got a chance over the long weekend to dig into a stack of fall fashion magazines, spots popped from designs by Gucci, Stella McCartney and Paul Smith, not to mention Marc Jacobs who’s a standard bearer for this graphic pattern in his flirty fall dresses, blouses and skirts. I adore polka dots, so, with the runways as inspiration, I shopped online for a selection of accessories — some specifically made for cycling, some not — to add pop to autumn riding.

Although red polka dots traditionally signify leadership in the King of the Mountains competition of the Tour de France, nobody will have to break a sweat when wearing these spot-on looks.

Clockwise from upper left: Kitch Kitchen, Polka Dot Panniers, $89; Black Polka Dot Saddle Cover, $16; Mango Wool Scarf, $48; Moschino Leather Gloves, $141; Zatchels, Polka Dot Leather Satchel, $147; Commando ‘Big Dot’ Sheer Tights, $32; Cateye, Strada Wireless Cycling Computer, Red Polka Dot Jersey, $57; Cat Eye Sunglasses, $6.

Nice jersey. When I was little my Aunt Dot always wore polka dot dresses. White dots, black dress. Big connection; since then I have loved them as well.
