“Going the Distance” Benefit Photography Show and Bike Rally

A weekend fundraiser in Amagansett, NY to benefit the Lance Armstrong Foundation kicks off with a reception for an exhibition of archival digital photos of the Tour de France by Bijou Le Tord, Saturday from 6 to 8 pm at Sylvester & Co. at Home, 154 Main Street. A benefit silent auction precedes the reception from  4 to 6 pm.

The Livestrong Road Rally, sponsored by the advocacy group Spokespeople of the Hamptons, takes off at noon on Sunday, July 4 from Amagansett Square. (Registration at 11 am.) Riders will be challenged to take six digital photographs of themselves in front of checkpoint landmarks such as Mulford Farm, Ashawagh Hall and The Art Barge. The winner will be the person who collects the most photos in the shortest period of time.

The 97th Tour de France

Tour de France RotterdamRoad cycling fans hardly need encouragement to transition from the vuvuzela to the cow bell, and from the pitch to the streets this weekend as the Tour de France gets underway with the Prologue time-trial in Rotterdam, The Netherlands on Saturday, July 3.

Get your own ride in early to settle in for TV coverage beginning at 11:30 am. Versus, which broadcasts the Tour in the U.S., also provides a prime-time replay beginning at 8 pm. View a preview video of  what to watch for in the Prologue here.

VeloCity Tour 2010 at Kissena Velodrome

There’ll be plenty of race action on home turf as bicycle messengers and city cyclists compete as individuals and in teams at the 5th Annual VeloCity Tour from 11 am to 4:30 pm, Saturday, July 3 at the Kissena Velodrome in Flushing. Participants compete for a trip to the 18th Annual Cycle Messengers World Championships in Guatemala Sept. 3 to 12.

Free Trial Classes at B East Spinning

Beginning July 9, B East spin studio in Amagansett, NY will offer a series of free introductory spin classes at 10:30 am on Monday and Friday. The low-key, 30-minute sessions, which include instruction and demonstrations, are meant for people who are curious about spinning, or for those who want to ease back into indoor cycling classes.

    Is Velojoy in France? Those are the biggest blue flowers I’ve ever seen. Looks like Lance celebrated the fundraiser in Amagansett with a strong time trial.
